ckln toronto ontario canada

According to the Montreal Gazette, The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced on January 28, 2011 that it has revoked the license of CKLN-FM. CKLN was the community-based radio station located on Toronto’s Ryerson University campus but not run by, or affiliated with, the school.

CRTC ruled that: “CKLN Radio Inc., was found to have been in breach of numerous regulations and conditions of licence. CKLN Radio was given several warnings and opportunities to come into compliance. Each time, it demonstrated an inability or unwillingness to address our concerns.”

CRTC stated that it had received “numerous complaints” about the way the station was managed and that infighting between management and staff led to a seven-month lockout during which time the station broadcast an intermittent loop of programing without any ongoing community involvement. Additionally, the station was unable to submit of audible on-air tapes, program logs, complete annual returns, and other information.
